In light of the current situation the Muslim Ummah is facing in the West, it is evident that there is a pressing need for a better understanding of how the Muslims should live as a minority in a non-Muslim society. Sheikh Anwar Al-Awlaki sheds light upon the Quran, hadeeth and the seerah (particularly the first 13 years in Makkah) and presents lessons to the daiee’ in order to strengthen his or her methods of conveying the message of Islam to the West.

As salaamu alaikum Imam Anwar:
JazakAllahu khair for everything you’ve done for the Ummah. I haven’t listened to this lecture but have downloaded it, and plan to insha’Allah. Can you possibly address some issues/questions that I have, or point me in the right direction in which to get the knowledge?
As many of us are Muslims living in the west, how do we view the non-Muslims living amongst us here? Are they all harbis? Is their blood and wealth halaal? Are they considered to be combatants or non-combatants? (because of voting, paying taxes, etc.) Including the women and children (as some shuyookh have stated)? Shaykh Yusuf Al-Uyayri (rah) has said in an essay that Muslims could (or should) kill up to 4 million no-combatant civilian kuffar. I understand this subject is a little controversial, but I know that you don’t sugar coat things, or say things in a defeatist politically correct way. I ask you and Allah (swt) to please forgive me if I said anythings wrong. JazakAllahu khair

Salaamoe alaikoum wr wb
May Allah reward you for your effort Sheikh Anwar.
I have questions which need an answer. I have been listening to the seerah of Muhammed, pbuh, the mekkan period. I hope you can answer them. I also listened to other of your lectures which i bought few years ago. I have a lot of questions. I hope you can answer my first question:
you said that there are two extremes and a middle, in arabic: tarafèni and wasath. you also mentioned the ayat … Ummah wasatha. You translated the word wasatha as middle. But I have heard another explanation of this ayah or this word, wasath means the best. So then the ayat would be translated as the best ummah… .
I also thought about this: if Allah says there are two ways one of them we can follow. I remember in the stories of the lives of the prophet you mentiond this: “.. either you with hizbu lah or hizbuh shaytaan (somethink like that).
Please let me understand this and if there is daleel concerning the other meaning of the word wasatha, please inform me about it.
salaam alaykum shiekh
I would also like to know the answer to this question…I like to consider myself as a good honest muslim, and would find it very difficult t
