in Washington, DC. The senior CIA officer who has become an outspoken critic
of the fight on terrorism turned in his resignation this week, citing a desire
to speak more freely about problems in the hunt for Osama bin Laden and the
debate over intelligence reform. Current government officials are rarely
as vocal as Mike Scheuer, who wrote "Imperial Hubris: Why the West is Losing
the War on Terror." But he called the decision to leave the agency after

Mike Scheuer, a 22-year CIA veteran and former head of the CIA's Osama bin
Laden unit until 1999, talks to the AP about the challenges in conducting
the war against al-Qaida, during an interview from his home in Falls Church,
Va., Monday, Nov. 15, 2004. Scheuer, who resigned from the CIA last Friday,
was until recently known as the "anonymous" author of two books critical
