FARAH, Afghanistan (March 21, 2010) -- Wearing customary clothing, Farah Provincial Reconstruction Team (PRT) interpreters Nasrin and Mirwais Noorzad share their culture with the American military members of the PRT during an Afghan New Years Party hosted by the interpreters, March 21, 2010, Forward Operating Base (FOB) Farah, Afghanistan. It has been six years since the interpreters have celebrated the Afghan New Year with the PRT. In Afghan culture, it is customary to have a celebration at least once or twice a month, said Nasrin. Tiffany Dalagelis, a Civil Affairs member of the Farah Provincial Reconstruction Team (PRT), welcomes 10 Farah contractors who donated over $5,000 worth of items to the Farah City Orphanage several weeks ago, along with 10 orphans who came to the PRT to thank the contractors for their generosity, Forward Operating Base (FOB) Farah, March 11, 2010. From winter jackets and sneakers to soccer uniforms and wood burning stoves, the PRT delivered to the orphanage all the items that were donated by the local Farah contractors who simply wanted to help out the underprivileged kids of their city. [Above and two below] The US Embassy in Kabul, with the participation of Ambassador Eikenberry and Mrs. Eikenberry, hosted a reception in celebration of International Womens Day March 10, 2010. The aim of this event was to recognize Afghan womens efforts and accomplishments in their fight for equal opportunities, development, justice, and equal treatment in all spheres of the Afghan society. Gathered here are some of the heroes of Afghanistan: artists, musicians, poets, teachers, NGO leaders, human rights activists, businesswomen, and politicians.

Speakers talked about the origin of Womens Day, plays, singing and positive speaches were given for all attending. Gifts and certificates were given out to many of the outstanding performers. This was the largest showing of support of women around the local areas to date. The newest publication magazine, Women of Dai Kundi was given out to all the women.
