Iranian Spy Defected

Iranian MOIS officer defected

An Iranian intelligence officer working for MOIS has defected and waits in a western embassy in Tehran for a political permit and safe departure. The defection happened due to extreme "house cleaning" inside MOIS after the recent presidential election.

It is unclear to us whether it is possible to get asylum from within Iran or not, so to protect the source and the officer we will not reveal the name of the embassy.

One thing is for sure: power shifts in Iran are very messy and a couple of defections after each election is to be expected.

This happened 4 years ago as well when 4 known diplomats from the Iranian Foreign Ministry in Japan, Finland, Norway and Italy defected.
