The MTA Gateway Towers have popped up at the entrances of NYC tunnels
But the MTA has come under fire for spending $100 million on the project
Gov Andrew Cuomo announced last year the redesign of bridges and tunnels
But MTA boardmembers and residents have no idea how the technology works
MTA Chairman Joe Lhota said the towers include 'whatever fiber optics are
necessary for those Homeland Security items' such as anti-terror technology

monitoring and other equipment related to homeland security
