Major Data Analysis Task in the Wake of Global Hawk Visit

The US Air Force's Global Hawk unmanned aircraft had a highly successful visit to Australia, and collected several thousand scenes across the country, particularly while conducting maritime surveillance operations. The challenge now facing DSTO researchers is to analyse the large quantity of data collected in collaboration with the US Air Force Operational Test and Evaluation Center (AFOTEC) on the performance of the Global Hawk system during its various Australian activities. A joint Australian and United States military utility report is due out later this year. This will be followed by a series of more detailed technical reports in which DSTO will analyse specific aspects of the Global Hawk system itself along with the broader system issues to provide informed advice to Defence decision makers.
