The presidential retreat Camp David and the US military nuclear-hardened underground command bunker Site R (where VP Cheney hides) are about six miles apart. It is likely there is a secret underground connection for communications systems, service of the systems and human movement by foot or machine. The link might be a dog-leg through Ft. Underground structures are proliferating worldwide for protection against aerial and space attack and surveillance. The White House has a plan to build a large structure under the White House grounds. That work may be underway now but concealed by construction apparatus at the adjacent Treasury building. Construction work appears to be going on at the Vice Presidential complex on the Naval Observatory grounds, and may include underground facilities.
