Elba III Project Southern Natural Gas Company (SNG) proposes two projects that will provide new gas supply to growth markets in the Southeastern United States. First, SNG plans to further expand its Elba Island liquefied natural gas (LNG) receiving terminal near Savannah, Georgia. Second, SNG proposes to construct, own and operate a new 190-mile interstate natural gas pipeline, Elba Express. With a total capacity of approximately 1.2 billion cubic feet per day, the new pipeline will increase natural gas transportation capacity from Elba Island to markets in Georgia and through the southeastern and eastern United states through interconnection with other pipelines. SNG filed an application for this project with the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) on September 29, 2006 and will begin construction after FERC has reviewed the application, received public comment, and issued a certificate of public convenience and necessity.
Elba III Terminal Expansion Project Recently, Southern LNG announced plans to significantly expand its Elba Island liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminal once again to meet the increased need for new natural gas delivery infrastructure to serve growth markets in the Southeastern United States. The Elba Island expansion will add 8.4 billion cubic feet (Bcf) of storage capacity at the facility and 900 million cubic feet per day (MMcf/d) of send-out capacity, doubling the storage and send-out capabilities of the facility. The expansion will take place in two phases. The initial phase will include installation of a new 4.2 Bcf storage tank and modification of the docking facilities to accommodate new, larger delivery vessels. This phase of the expansion will be placed in service in mid-2010. The second phase of the terminal expansion will add another 4.2 Bcf storage tank. This phase is expected to be completed in 2012. Elba Express Pipeline Project In addition to expanding Elba Island, SNG plans to construct the Elba Express interstate natural gas pipeline. Receiving supply from Elba Island, the new pipeline will run northwest, interconnecting with pipelines and customers along the route. The pipeline is expected to be in-service in mid-2010, will consist of approximately 190 miles of 42-inch and 36-inch diameter, natural gas pipeline. An additional compressor station will be constructed later, to increase capacity in 2012. |
