Fly-by eyeball of the Chicksands FLR-9 CDAA

Alan Turnbull, UK Secret Bases, www.secret-bases.co.uk

My aerial photography contributor to Secret Bases - with his own pilot's licence, no less - certainly delivered the quality goods as detailed in www.cryptome.org/flyby-secrets.htm

He's just contacted me again after browsing through his archives:-

Would I be interested in a hi-res extreme close-up shot of the FLR-9 Circular Disposed Antenna Array (CDAA) at Chicksands near Shefford, Bedfordshire, shortly before it was decommissioned and dismantled in 1996?

Say what?!

We're only talking about one of the most iconic signals intelligence (SIGINT) sites in the world!

If, like me, you were impressed with the original photos he supplied, you'll be amazed by this one. You've seen FLR-9 pics before, but have you seen one this good?

Check out the newly updated Chicksands section on Secret Bases Part 1. What else lurks in my contributor's archive? There's only one way to found out

... stay tuned to Secret Bases!

Secret Bases revealed in flight!

Alan Turnbull, UK Secret Bases, www.secret-bases.co.uk

Hey, so who needs Getmapping, Google Earth and Windows Live Local's Bird's Eyes, when you've got a private pilot's licence?

A dedicated fan of my Secret Bases website has very kindly sent me some stunning hi-res aerial photos of an old wartime Royal Naval Armaments Depot (RNAD) just south east of London in Kent, which once served the historic Royal Dockyard at Chatham, complete with a special rail network.

But the huge depot has more recently been used for other military and police facilities with curious acronyms like DEODS, EODTIC and PNSC.

There's even a Phantom jet parked in the middle of the camp. There are no runways nearby, but plenty of bunkers hidden in woods.

Confused? Find out the answers and see the fascinating hi-res pictures in the latest update to Secret Bases Part 1:-
