Date: Sat, 06 Jun 1998 12:56:30 +0200 Thanks to add & correct to http://jya.com/gsm-snoop.htm In a ZONE OF LOCALISATION (group of cells: 4-6), the network doesn't know in which cell the GSM standby is. The reason is that each operator sends a periodic (2 times per hour ) location updating the signal between BTS and GSM. This log is kept a certain time by each operator: COMTEC in Norway, SFR in France: 2 days, Swisscom to 1997: 6 mois, DeteMobil in Germany: 2 weeks,... A Swiss federal commission is investigating Swisscom (http://www.edsb.ch) from 1.98 to 7.98 concerning this log giving the position (1-10 km) of each GSM in standby.
