While at the NSA, Crowell was a strong ally of Louis Freeh, the director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, in his fight against attempts by the software industry to pass legislation that would lift export controls on strong encryption. {..} Crowell is currently president and chief executive of Cylink Corp., which develops and sells network security systems.
