T. writes: Sorry, but you are way wrong!  This is the command echelon (aka hierarchy). You really should remove this so people don't laugh at you.

Crytpome: Thanks for your note. I understood that the Navy's use of "echelon" is about command levels, as with most of the world's military. However, the NSGA units have been long associated with the Echelon snooping program by those who have researched the topic, such as James Bamford, Duncan Campbell, Jeffrey Richelson, and others -- several of the listed NSGA units are named in their publications. However, I agree that the file should have a note clarifying the difference between the two uses of "echelon" in the file, and I'll do that. Yes, we deserve being laughed at for our bloopers. If we knew what we were doing we probably would take ourselves so seriously we wouldn't even think of doing it.
