A public hearing on the causes of the collapse of the WTC towers scheduled for April, then postponed to await the FEMA/ASCE collapse-investigation report release on May 1, has not been rescheduled. As Paul Goldberger writes in this week's New Yorker (not online), the major power players of New York are pushing rapid redevelopment of downtown and have no patience for investigation of the disaster. Which is likely to show the power players advancing protection of property values over human safety, as deftly skirted in the FEMA/ASCE report.
